Neil Oliver Profile

Neil Oliver was born in Ayr, Scotland, on 2nd March, 1967. He is a broadcaster and author, mainly presenting factual documentary programmes with an interest in social history, such as Coast and A History of Ancient Britain.

Neil Oliver grew up in Ayr and Dumfries in Scotland and studied Archaeology at Glasgow University with his debut on television came in 2002 with Two Men in a Trench. Neil co-presented with friend, Tony Pollard, visiting historic British battlefields to see what buried treasures they could find.

In 2006, Neil cemented his status as a top presenter by securing a role on Coast, presenting archaeological and social history strands from the second to the fifth series.

Stints as a contributor on BBC One's The One Show in the summer of 2007 followed along with the Coast special Coast from the Air.

Neil's work on Coast lead to further series examining the history of Britain. Firstly, A History of Scotland aired in Scotland in 2008, subsequently broadcasting throughout the UK in 2009. This was followed by the broader A History of Ancient Britain in 2011.
