The Monocled Mutineer

Paul McGann stars in his first major role in this controversial and acclaimed four-part miniseries from 1986. Adapted by Alan Bleasdale from the book by William Allison and John Fairley, the show is based on the life of Percy Toplis who was a real-life rake, rogue and master of disguise. Said to have had a key role in the rebellion that took place at the notorious Etaples Training Camp in northern France on the eve of "The Battle of Passchendaele" in 1917, Toplis later became the most wanted man in Britain following a series of crimes including murder. But was he really guilty, or did the political establishment have a vendetta against him?
